THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

The year begins with our Annual Meeting in January that celebrates the growing ministry of Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church. The Choir treats us to a wonderful array of homemade chili (from mild to insanely hot!), while we enjoy a slide show from the past year at ARPC. It is also a great time of discussion about the health and strengthening of the Church.

Men’s and Youth Basketball teams offer a chance to fellowship, exercise, and have fun with fellow Christians in a competitive and respectful arena. Leagues usually start in January.

We annually offer a Lenten Study program leading into Easter.  This is designed as a weekly study that is taught by our pastor and other church leaders.  After each lesson, we enjoy homemade soup, sandwiches, and desserts followed by a short musical service.

Easter is always a wonderful time at our church as we celebrate the sacrifice and glorious resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Children love finding eggs, making crafts, and playing games at our annual Easter Egg Hunt. This is followed by a pot luck dinner for all.

Our yearly Attic Sale helps spread the love of Christ as we join together to raise funds for the Presbyterian Women.  What better way to celebrate the summer than an Ice Cream Social.  We gather in July to sing His praises and enjoy each other’s company over multitudes of ice cream and toppings.  It is truly a great time and one of our key events.

In August, the Choir hosts their annual Spaghetti Supper.  The money raised at this meal helps to pay for the Choir's annual retreat, so they can prepare for the Christmas season's wonderful music.

Small Group Bible Studies are held throughout the year with most of our long-term studies starting in the early fall with Disciple classes and ALPHA (to be held in the Fall of 2009).  Disciple classes are offered for the varying levels of discipleship knowledge starting with Disciple I.  ALPHA is an introduction to the Christian faith, yet applicable to those searching, new to the faith, or looking to refresh their foundation in Christ. More details on small group studies can be found on the Christian Education page.

The We Are Family Retreat in the Fall gives us a chance to become closer to God by taking a weekend away from our busy lives to spend with our church family.  This is a weekend retreat in the mountains that enables us to be with God and nature.  There is personal prayer time, group discussion, and great food.

We celebrate Jesus' birth at Christmas with a beautifully decorated sanctuary and multiple opportunities to gather together in anticipation.  Our annual Christmas Party is a time for the kids to meet Santa, make crafts, and get excited about the coming of Jesus’ birthday. We have tree decorating festivities for the children and a Christmas Pageant presented by the youth. With the Hanging of the Greens service and the weekly lighting of the Advent candles, Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church reflects the warmth of Christ culminating in our Christmas Eve services.
